I have
\nfollowed David Shrigley for decades and have many of his books. His comic, mad
\nand vulnerable work speaks to me on a personal level. His commitment to his
\nconversation with self, and sharing that in the hope that it’s useful to
\nothers, is inspiring,<\/span><\/p>\n

I
\naccidentally discovered one of his books in Waterstones. That’s how I found
\nhim,<\/span><\/p>\n

His view is
\nthat making art is a basic human need and I agree. Whatever we do creatively,
\nit can heal our mind, body and soul. It also registers our existence and
\nconnects us with everyone who has tried to do so before us.<\/span><\/p>\n

His work
\ndeals with big issues in a light-hearted way and this approach is something
\nthat I really connect with. Making talking about the impossible, possible. To
\nthe benefit of myself and others.<\/span><\/p>\n

When he left
\nart school, he didn’t have the means to do anything other than drawing. So
\nthat’s what he did, and it resonated with his audience. I like that approach,
\nworking within the limitations of certain media to push yourself creatively.  <\/span><\/p>\n

In truth, I
\nabsolutely fell in love with him as an artist when I saw his collaboration with
\nChris Shepherd, “Who I Am and What I Want”.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

His bizarre and humorous pieces almost always include text, with the letters often written in his own handwriting. His use of text enhances his work, and his recognizable penmanship give his work a clear identity and brand.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
